The LAURIBERT Domain

Account
The LAURIBERT domain has been run by the family for now 5 generations.
Before, the totality of the vintagings was brought to the cooperative cellar. But since 1997 Laurent SOURDON has decided to make his own team and too bring the wine production to a successful conclusion despite the complexity of the task.
Lauribert is a name, composed by some letters from the active members' family surnames: LAUrent, MaRIE et RoBERT.

Geographic situation
The LAURIBERT Domain can be found in the Popes' Enclave in Visan and Valréas.

The domain produces approximately 2 600 hl with 54 hectares shared in
Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône-Villages (2 000 hl) and Vin de Pays de Vaucluse (600 hl).

Vines
The vines of the Domain are composed of 70% of Grenache, 10% of Carignan and 5% of Cinsaut. The Grenache Syrah and Cinsaut are dressed in cup or established wire in cord of Royat with an elevating wire system. The Carignan is dressed in cup.

The age of the vineyard is shared like that :
35% are older than 30, 35% are between 10 and 30 years, old
30% are younger than 10 years old.
For the latter it's a program of replanting with a politics of qualitative vines like Syrah for example.

Characteristics
The vines Syrah and Grenache are separately wine-made before being blended after fermentation. Grapes are picked off at 100% and soak between 7 or 12 days at a temperature peaked at 30° C.

Visan and Valréas can be found in l'Enclave des Papes( the Popes' Enclave). The origin of the Enclave goes back to the Middle Ages. At this time, the Popes would purchase lands around Avignon in order to extend their estates and consequently earn more money. That's how they became the owners of Richerenches, Valréas, Visan, and Grillon. The joining together of these villages formed from that moment a papal enclave in the territory of the future kingdom of France. L'Enclave des Papes was born. It remained an enclave until the French Revolution ordered it to be reunited with the department of Vaucluse, thus remaining an enclave in the department of the Drôme. Due to it's rich historic past , the Enclave des Papes today is a real living historical monument.

Soil and Vine
The quality of the wine is due to many elements, but its personality mainly comes from the grape variety and the soil. Indeed the same grape variety will produce wines with different personalities from one soil to another. In the same way, different grape varieties shared over the same soil will give diverse personalities to the wines. Generations and generations of experience in this field has yielded precious information and showed that some grape varieties are best suited to some specific soils.
